The fire within: When rage becomes fuel

There’s a burning rage deep within.

I’m fueled by an infernal volcano filled to the brim with fuck yous, and it is my saving grace.

Here I am sharing my journey. Trying to document the moments I feel strong to help guide me through the moments when I feel weak and hoping to help others too; and here I am, telling you that the thing that drives me is none other than a searing, intense, unfathomable rage.

All the things that have happened to us, all the thoughts we have, the stories we tell ourselves can disable us into oblivion and keep us trapped or propel us into action and move us forward. We just have to be honest with ourselves, stay focused, and choose wisely.

Rage is like mercury. It’s a strange element. Unstable. Heavy. Alive. You can’t pick it up or touch it. It’s deadly, it’s fascinating, and it has its uses. I think, when you’re healing from massive, life-changing events, especially devastation, rage is a natural response to the guilt, the sudden awareness, to the deceit, and to helplessness.

If you don’t have your wits about you and you allow it to consume you, it will. Unchecked, it destroys. Observed, it reveals. Some people embrace the darkness to find the light, and I believe that rage can be the bridge between the two.

Inside the full article, I share how I learned to use my anger as fuel to rebuild myself, one step at a time.
